Former Jungler Michael Correa Faces Sentencing in U.S Court

Africa-Press – Gambia. Michael Sang Correa, a former member of the Gambian death squad known as the Junglers, will be sentenced on August 22, 2025, in a U.S. federal court in Denver, Colorado, sources have revealed.

According to official statements from the Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA) and the Alliance of Victim-Led Organisations (AVLO), Correa will be sentenced after his trial.

The statement confirmed that on April 15, 2025, after a five-day trial, a Denver jury found Correa guilty of five counts of torture and one count of conspiracy to commit torture. These charges relate to acts carried out in 2006 during an attempted coup against former President Yahya Jammeh.

Judge Christine M. Arguello, who presided over the trial as reported by the CJA, scheduled the sentencing hearing. According to official case materials from both the CJA and AVLO, the U.S. government is recommending the maximum penalty of 120 years in prison.

The sentencing hearing will include arguments from both the prosecution and defense. Victims will also have the opportunity to submit statements describing how Correa’s crimes impacted their lives, according to the Alliance of Victim-Led Organisations.

The statement further states that Correa retains the right to appeal the verdict on limited grounds following sentencing.
