Africa-Press – Gambia. The Special Select Committee probing the sale and disposal of assets under the Janneh Commission has formally charged Mr. Alieu Jallow, former Registrar of Companies, with perjury and contempt of the National Assembly.
According to the committee, Jallow deliberately deleted and altered key files on his official laptop before submitting it for forensic analysis. Investigators discovered that documents relevant to the inquiry had been accessed, modified, and in some cases completely erased.
In light of these findings, Counsel Aji Saine Kah requested that the Sergeant-at-Arms effect Jallow’s arrest and hand him over to the Inspector General of Police. The committee’s chairperson, Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, approved the request, stating that Jallow had been given multiple opportunities to explain his actions but failed to do so.
“Forensic evidence confirms deliberate tampering with documents and provision of false testimony. The application for arrest is hereby granted,” Hon. Ceesay said.
He further noted that Jallow’s conduct amounted to contempt of Parliament and obstruction of proceedings, deliberately misleading the committee. The altered records reportedly included farm inventories in Farato and Banjulinding, internal memos, inspection reports, and cattle sales records.
Jallow, who served as Registrar General during the asset disposals overseen by the Janneh Commission and was the sole custodian of these assets, was found to have interfered with the investigation and concealed critical information. The findings emerged from a detailed forensic examination of his official laptop.
His arrest was executed in accordance with Sections 109 and 110 of the 1997 Constitution of The Gambia and Orders 102 and 140 of the National Assembly Standing Orders. The Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly carried out the arrest and handed Jallow over to the Office of the Inspector General of Police for further investigation.
