Africa-Press – Gambia. The Finance and Public Accounts Committee has urged the government to increase funding for public election sensitization ahead of next year’s presidential vote, recommending that an additional D27 million be allocated to the National Council for Civic Education.
The recommendation appears in the committee’s consolidated report on the 2026 draft budget, presented to lawmakers by Alagie S. Darboe, the committee’s chairperson. The report outlines several proposed adjustments to budget lines under the Office of the President, including supplementary support for institutions involved in civic awareness.
“The Committee recommends an additional allocation of D27,000,000 to NCCE’s OC,” Darboe said in the report. “This funding is intended to support sensitization initiatives in light of the upcoming elections scheduled for December 2026.”
The committee also proposed revisions to allocations for the Office of National Security and called for a policy shift requiring that all government rent and rate payments be routed through the Central Office of Revenue Administration, a move it said would improve oversight and financial management.
The report provides a detailed breakdown of expenditures for the Office of the President and its affiliated agencies, highlighting areas of increase, reduction, and final estimates as the Assembly continues its review of the 2026 spending plan.
