Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia team was invited by the International Deaf Culture & Arts (IDCA), a non-profit organisation based in Las Vegas, United States of America. The event is designed to promote and advance culture and arts on the global stage.

In an interview with The Point, Adama Jammeh, chairperson of The Gambia Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Banjul branch, said they are currently soliciting for support to enable five of their members to attend the event.

Jammeh, who is also a committee member of The Gambia Deaf Arts and Culture Association, explained further that the forthcoming event is slated from 23rd to 31st October.

“There will also be side event which includes visiting historical places in Tanzania.” Jammeh indicated that they only selected five participants (2 males, 2 females) and the one leading the delegation.

The Gambia, she said, would participate in this event for the first time since its inception in 2012. “So we are soliciting support from different institutions, and even the government of The Gambia.”

She urged people to do away with the notion that hard of hearing people can’t do better in any undertakings. “We have confidence that we can do it even better than those that can hear well.”

She recalled that last year they wrote a letter to the Ministry of Tourism but they didn’t receive any response from the office, despite several follow-ups, but to no avail.

“This is why we are soliciting support from the general public and we call on all kind-hearted people to support us to enable our members to participate in this mega event.”
