Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) received a consignment of military aid from the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, underscoring a deepening spirit of African solidarity and regional cooperation.
The donation, which includes 15 Buffalo vehicles, uniforms, and assorted military equipment, was formally handed over during a ceremony at Defence Headquarters in Banjul. The event was attended by senior officials, among them the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, and Mauritania’s Ambassador to The Gambia, His Excellency Hamoud Abdi.
Representing the Vice President, Interior Minister Abdoulie Sanyang received the consignment on behalf of the Gambian Government. He noted that the support comes at a critical time, as it will strengthen the GAF’s ability to safeguard communities, improve emergency response, extend services to hard-to-reach areas, and boost troop morale.
“The vehicles and uniforms arrived at a crucial time and will significantly improve the operational capacity of GAF,” Minister Sanyang said, while expressing appreciation to the leadership of both nations for their shared vision and commitment to African solidarity.
For his part, CDS Cham conveyed gratitude to Mauritania for its steadfast support, highlighting the country’s plans to train over 100 Gambian soldiers in specialized military fields. Ambassador Abdi, meanwhile, commended the mutual efforts of the two nations in fostering cooperation and brotherhood.
The ceremony reinforced the growing partnership between The Gambia and Mauritania and the importance of regional collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges across the continent.
