Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia U-17 national team’s technical staff has successfully concluded an eight-day nationwide scouting tour, aimed at unearthing young football talent for the future of Gambian football. The final leg of the tour wrapped up on Tuesday with trials held for players from Banjul at the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Old Yundum.
According to the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), the scouting team—led by Head Coach Yahya Manneh and supported by his backroom staff traveled across all seven administrative regions of the country, assessing more than 400 aspiring footballers.
“The team visited Essau and Farafenni in the North Bank Region, Kaur and Basang in the Central River Region, Basse in the Upper River Region, Soma in the Lower River Region, and Bwiam and Brikama in the West Coast Region,” the GFF revealed. “Players from the Kanifing Municipality and Banjul City were evaluated during sessions at the NTTC in Old Yundum.”
The GFF confirmed that Coach Yahya Manneh and his team will now compile a shortlist of the most promising players identified during the tour. These players will be invited for further screening and development at the National Technical Training Centre.
This nationwide scouting effort is part of the GFF’s ongoing commitment to develop grassroots football and build a competitive national U-17 team for upcoming regional and international tournaments.
