Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Wrestling Association has signed a partnership agreement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to support preparations for the TOLAC Wrestling Championship scheduled for May 2026.
The agreement is part of efforts by Gambian authorities and regional partners to ensure the successful hosting of the championship, which will take place from 15 to 17 May 2026. It also seeks to strengthen cooperation in the development of wrestling and expand sporting opportunities for young athletes across West Africa.
The signing ceremony was attended by Abass Bah, representing the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mahmoud Lamin Jawla on behalf of the National Sports Council, and Matarr Saine representing the Gambia Wrestling Association.
Officials said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to promoting wrestling within the ECOWAS sub-region, encouraging youth participation in sport, and reinforcing cultural and sporting ties among member states.
