Gambia Government Apologise To Justice Emmanuel Nkea For Declaring Him Wanted

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice has written a letter of apology to Justice Emmanuel Nkea for declaring him a wanted man.

The apology related to an online publication in the Point Newspaper dating back to 2014 and a blog posting written in the same year.

“The Attorney General and Minister of Justice takes this opportunity to issue its sincere apology to Justice Emmanuel Nkea and to strongly condemn all such arbitrary actions that were meted out to Justice Emmanuel Nkea,” the ministry said in a letter dated 20th March 2023.

The Ministry said that in 2018, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia was seized with complaint against an online publication in The Point Newspaper of June 05, 2014, and to a blog post on June 05, 2014, in which it was reported that “Former Justice Emmanuel Nkea is a Wanted Man”.

They said In July 2021, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice received a petition to the ECOWAS Court by Justice Emmanuel Nkea challenging these allegations and seeking damages in compensation.

“Pursuant to the complaint and the Petition at the Ecowas Court, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice sought to determine whether Justice Emmanuel Nkea was indeed subjected to any criminal investigations in The Gambia. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia states that after due investigations, there was no basis to justify the issuance and or publication of the Wanted Posters against Justice Emmanuel Nkea. It is regrettable that there was a publication of the Wanted Posters of Justice Emmanuel Nkea at such conspicuous locations in multiple police stations in The Gambia,” the ministry said.
