Africa-Press – Gambia. Both matches of the two-legged encounters will now take place in the Kingdom of Morocco. This is necessitated by the fact that the Moroccan authorities have closed their airspace to all incom-ing passenger flights as concerns grow over a new, heavily mutated variant of the coronavirus, dubbed Omicron.

The Gambian team went to camp on Monday 29 November 2021 at the Football Hotel in Yundum. The team was scheduled to fly to Morocco on 1 December 2021 to play the first-leg originally scheduled for 4 December 2021.

Since then, the GFF has been engaged in a tripar-tite negotiation with its Moroccan counterparts and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to find an amicable solution to the situation.

We proposed to reschedule the matches to the 12 and 18 December which the Moroccans agreed to but CAF is instead proposing the 6 and 12 be-cause of the travel arrangement of the match offi-cials.

The mater isn’t conclusive yet as we await confir-mation from our continental body. Once the new dates are confirmed by CAF, Mo-rocco will send a charter flight to Banjul to airlift the girls to play the match. The general public will be informed on any further development as and when available.
