Africa-Press – Gambia. The Republic of The Gambia will host the 54th Annual Regional Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region, scheduled to take place from 10th to 16th August 2025 in Banjul.
The high-level conference, which officially opens this Sunday, will be held under the theme: “Strengthening Democratic Governance and Resilience in Africa: Tackling Conflicts, Economic Shocks, and Climate Risks.” President Adama Barrow is expected to preside over the opening ceremony.
Organized by the National Assembly of The Gambia, the event is expected to draw more than 300 delegates from national and sub-national parliaments across Africa. Attendees will include speakers of national assemblies, members of parliament, parliamentary clerks, secretariat staff, observers, development partners, and accompanying officials, including spouses.
According to an official statement from the CPA Africa Region, “Dignitaries from all sub-regions (West, East, Central, and Southern Africa) will participate in workshops, committee meetings, and plenary sessions to address critical issues such as governance, economic recovery, climate action, inclusive development, and digital innovation.”
The conference aims to foster inter-parliamentary dialogue, share best practices, and strengthen the role of legislatures in advancing democratic governance and resilience across the continent.
