Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) proudly participated in this year’s Yaram Arts Festival in London, a vibrant celebration of Senegambian culture that brought together Gambians, the wider African diaspora, and international guests.
Held at the Barking Road Recreation Ground in London (E6 3BA), the festival was alive with music, dance, storytelling, and traditional masquerades, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of The Gambia and its people.
The event served as a platform to honour the Gambian diaspora, recognizing their vital role as cultural ambassadors and their contributions to promoting The Gambia as a top tourist destination.
Commenting on the GTBoard participation at the festival, Adama Njie, Director of Tourism Promotion, Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) UK Office, emphasized the strategic importance of such gatherings.
“This festival was organized to bring Gambians in the diaspora together to celebrate and showcase their beautiful cultural heritage,” he said. “It also aligns with our broader strategy to promote Gambian tourism in the UK and to diasporans and international audiences.”
However, this year’s Yaram Arts Festival featured an array of performances across genres, including African music, reggae, hip-hop, afrobeat, and dancehall. Highlights included traditional masquerade displays such as the Kankourang, the Medoune, and Zimba Lion groups, and the Hunting Masquerade, which captivated audiences with their energy and symbolism.
The festival not only provided entertainment but also served as a powerful reminder of The Gambia’s cultural richness, a core strength in its tourism appeal.
