Gambia Tourism London Office Closes Following Reorganization

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia High Commission in London on Friday bid farewell to Adama Njie and other staff following the closure of the Gambia Tourism Office in London, as part of reorganization by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Adama Njie, who served as Director of Tourism Promotion for the United Kingdom, has been reassigned to the Gambia Tourism Board headquarters in Banjul as Director of Marketing.

The London tourism office, which has operated since the 1970s, played a key role in promoting Destination Gambia internationally. Over the years, it was headed by several tourism professionals, including Batch Faye, Joe Gabbidon, Sainabou Drammeh, Ida Jeng-Njie, the late Malick Jeng, and most recently Njie.

The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Fatou Bensouda, expressed regret at Njie’s departure, describing him as “a true tourism professional.” She said his absence would be felt, particularly given the importance of maintaining a physical tourism presence in London.

She added, however, that Njie would continue to contribute to tourism promotion from Banjul in his new role.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Suntou Touray, also paid tribute to the departing officials, noting the close cooperation between the High Commission and the tourism office. He commended the contributions of Adama Njie and Omar Demba and expressed hope that the London tourism office could be reopened in the future, citing its strategic importance.

During his tenure, Njie played a key role in promoting The Gambia internationally, including leading the country’s participation at the World Travel Market at ExCeL London, where The Gambia won the Best Stand award in 2025, strengthening its visibility as a tourism destination.

Certificates of Recognition were presented to Njie and Demba by Bensouda in appreciation of their service in promoting Destination Gambia in the United Kingdom since 2022.

The event concluded with a farewell lunch hosted by the High Commissioner and attended by staff of the High Commission and the departing officers.
