Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Transport Union (GTU) has submitted its nine-point resolution to President Adama Barrow for endorsement and support during an audience at his residence in Mankamang Kunda, where the president is currently vacationing.
During the meeting, the GTU also conferred on President Barrow the title of “Champion of Road Infrastructure Development and Transport Reform”, in recognition of his government’s efforts to expand the country’s road network and implement key reforms in the transport sector.
In receiving the document, President Barrow reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing the road transport sector, describing it as a crucial driver of national development and economic growth. He assured the union that the Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure would collaborate closely with the GTU to implement the resolutions in line with the government’s development priorities.
President Barrow also commended the union for its constructive engagement and dedication to advancing the transport industry, acknowledging the GTU’s role as a vital partner in the country’s socio-economic transformation.
GTU President Omar Ceesay, for his part, expressed gratitude to the government for its continued collaboration and support, noting that the union remains committed to improving the transport system for the benefit of all Gambians.
The GTU reaffirmed its pledge to promote the welfare and well-being of all road transport workers in The Gambia and beyond while continuing to advocate for policies that enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the sector.
