Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia National Women’s team, Queen Scorpions, on Monday began training ahead of the forthcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A Women’s tournament to be held in Cape Verde in 2023.
Head coach Mariama ‘Bom’ Sowe has assembled a provisional list of 29 players who commenced training at the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum on Monday 9 January 2023.
The daily training, aimed at honing the skills of her team, will wrap up next week ahead of the sub-regional tournament set to run from 20 January to 1 February 2023.
The first edition of the tournament was held in Sierra Leone in 2020, with Senegal emerging as champions.
The Gambia will resurface for the second time and prepare a formidable squad to face off with the big guns throughout the tournament.
