Africa-Press – Gambia. Flex Fuzion, one of The Gambia’s leading performing arts collectives, has received a prestigious invitation from the Government of the People’s Republic of China to participate in two major cultural festivals this summer. The invitation was extended through the Chinese Embassy in Banjul, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

The group will feature nine talented female percussionists from Afriq Divas — a brand managed by Flex Fuzion — and will showcase Gambian and West African traditional music and dance on an international stage.

Their first performance will be at the Poly (Changzhou) Percussion Arts Festival, where they will not only take the stage but also conduct a masterclass. The workshop will offer participants a hands-on introduction to Gambian traditional dance and West African percussion techniques.

Following their performance in Changzhou, the group will continue to the Harbin Music Festival, delivering what is expected to be a powerful and colorful representation of Gambian culture.

In a recent pre-departure engagement, the group met with the Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia and the Gambia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Both praised the group’s dedication and commended their previous successful collaboration with China’s StrikEast Percussion Ensemble, which visited The Gambia in April 2025.

……. the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture celebrated the milestone, particularly applauding the gender representation.

“I am delighted to have an all-female group breaking barriers in this traditionally male-dominated field. Their participation is a major step in revitalizing China-Gambia cultural exchange.”

Ndey Fatou Jabang, Creative Director of Flex Fuzion, expressed her gratitude to both the Chinese and Gambian governments for their support and confidence:

“Be assured that The Gambia will be proudly represented with dignity, creativity, and professionalism.”

The group’s participation is being supported by the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), and NCAC Director General, Hassoum Ceesay, will lead the delegation.

He emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy, stating, “Music and dance are powerful bridges between cultures. This event is not just a performance — it’s a celebration of diversity and friendship.”

DG Ceesay thanked the Chinese government for its support, describing the invitation as a significant milestone in China-Gambia cooperation. He added that the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture has urged the artists to raise the Gambian flag high during their performances abroad.

This landmark invitation marks a significant achievement not only for Flex Fuzion and Afriq Divas but also for the broader Gambian creative industry, showcasing the country’s vibrant artistic talent on the global stage.
