Gambian Artist Rebellion the Recaller Speaks out

Africa-Press – Gambia. Gambian reggae artist Bafoday Drammeh, popularly known as Rebellion the Recaller, has spoken out on global crises while underscoring his continued dedication to reggae music, a genre he has upheld for more than three decades.

Rebellion, who was born in Europe and moved to The Gambia at the age of 11, made the remarks during a recent interview with Gambian Talents TV. The artist expressed concern over ongoing violence in Gaza, describing the situation as “uncalled for” and deeply troubling, particularly for civilians and children caught in the conflict.

He criticised what he described as the silence of influential figures and leaders in the face of humanitarian suffering. “Money has consumed them,” he said, adding that those who attempt to speak out are often dismissed as engaging in propaganda unless driven by financial interest.

Despite his outspokenness on global issues, Rebellion reaffirmed his commitment to preserving his musical identity. He noted that while many artists alter their style to follow trends, he has maintained his reggae foundation since the beginning of his career. The artist said this consistency reflects discipline, focus and a dedication to authenticity that has resonated with audiences in The Gambia and beyond.
