A new survey sanctioned by Gambia Participates and conducted by Cepress, released today, reveals that a majority of Gambians are opposed to United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainu Darboe contesting the 2026 presidential election.
According to the findings, 59 percent of respondents believe Darboe should not run, while 63 percent said they would not vote for him if he decides to contest.
When asked about potential successors to Darboe within the UDP, 44 percent of respondents favored Talib Ahmed Bensouda, the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, as his replacement. Meanwhile, 13 percent suggested Yankuba Darboe, and 5 percent opted for Banjul Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe.
The survey also found that 50 percent of Gambians would vote for Talib Bensouda if he were to run for president. Additionally, half of respondents expressed support for a potential coalition involving Talib Bensouda, Essa Faal, and Mama Kandeh.
