Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Deaf Sports Association (GDSA) has appealed to the public for support to help fund flight tickets for its delegation ahead of the West Africa Deaf Football Tournament in Nigeria.
The association confirmed it has received a one-million-dalasi grant from the Government of The Gambia but noted that the most pressing challenge remains covering the cost of air travel for its 25-member team.
“We humbly request your support for the Gambia National Deaf Football Team. With a grant of D1 million from the government, we are set to represent the country at the West Africa Deaf Football Tournament in Nigeria from August 18 to 31, 2025. However, our biggest challenge remains air tickets for our delegation,” the GDSA said in a statement.
The association urged individuals and organisations to contribute toward this critical expense, highlighting the opportunity for the team to showcase Gambian talent on an international stage. “Your assistance will enable us to participate and demonstrate our abilities. Every contribution matter and helps us overcome challenges,” the statement added.
GDSA’s appeal underscores the ongoing need for support of athletes with disabilities and highlights the determination of Gambian sportsmen and women to represent the country with pride on regional and international platforms.
