Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) yesterday, on Wednesday began a five-day referees assessors training at the National Technical Training Center in Old Yundum. This is coming on the heels of a successful staging of a six-day elite referees’ course that ended on Tuesday.
Presiding over the opening ceremony, the first Vice President of the GFF Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh congratulated the participants for their deserved selection into the course and urged them to take the lectures seriously.
He also encouraged the participants to show concentration while the sessions are ongoing. “You should always be on top of the game; he [the instructor] expects maximum concentration on the laws of the game.”
Mr. Jammeh further stressed that referees’ assessors are important in football development and should not be short of knowledge. “You cannot be an assessor without understanding the laws of the game,” he stressed.
He nonetheless urged the assessors to keep up the good work while encouraging them to work harder for more gainful results in football. Other speakers include the Course Director Mr. Abdul Basit Ebrahim and Chairman of The Gambia Football Referees Association who doubles as an Executive Committee Member of the GFF Mr. John Frank Mendy. The ceremony was also graced by the GFF General Secretary Lamin M. Jassey and first Vice President of Real de Banjul FC Pa Yusu Samba.
