Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, officially launched a 10-day CAF/GFF Coach Educators training course at the National Technical Training Center in Old Yundum, with GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo presiding over the opening ceremony.
Addressing the participants, President Bajo hailed the course as a significant milestone in Gambian football development under the CARMS initiative. He emphasised the vital role of referees and coaches in nurturing talent, noting that many of the current national team players have been trained by the very coaches attending the course. “People hardly appreciate, commend, or celebrate the achievements of coaches when discussing players and their successes. But like teachers, coaches take pride in uplifting others. It would be a proud moment for any of you to travel abroad and conduct such courses,” he stated.
President Bajo also reassured Gambian coaches of his commitment to support the organisation of a CAF A Coaching Diploma Course in Gambia and commended the GFF Technical Department under the leadership of Sang Ndong for its proactive approach.
Course instructor Michael Amenga highlighted Gambia’s unique position in hosting the training. “Gambia is one of the few countries on the continent to organise such training. This is the eleventh country out of 54 in Africa to host this course. CAF is looking for quality, which is why it sends instructors to deliver such courses,” he said, praising the GFF leadership for their efforts in football development.
Technical Director Sang Ndong also addressed the participants, stressing the importance of the course and announcing that an assessment would be conducted at its conclusion. He encouraged attendees to consider becoming local instructors to expand coaching capacity in Gambia. Currently, we only have three local coach educators Alagie Sillah, Lamim Sambou, and myself. We need more coaches to step up. There are two C License courses scheduled for October and November, and a larger course is in the pipeline,” he said, urging participants to take the next step in their professional development.
The 10-day course is part of the GFF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local coaching standards and enhance football development across the country.
