GID Begins Construction of Clinic in Abuko

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new clinic in Abuko, in partnership with Africa Relief and Community Development (AFRD).

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, GID Director General Ebrima Mboob described the initiative as historic, noting that it is the first of its kind in the department’s history. He explained that the project reflects GID’s efforts to contribute to national development beyond its primary mandate.

“This dream has become a reality through the support of AFRD, whose humanitarian contributions in health, orphan sponsorship, poverty reduction, clean water initiatives, and community infrastructure are well recognized across Africa and beyond,” Mr. Mboob said.

He emphasized that the establishment of the Al-Shifaa Clinic will be a major achievement not only for the GID but also for The Gambia as a whole. He further challenged immigration officers to pursue studies in nursing and other medical fields to serve in the clinic in the future.

For his part, Muhammed Maani, Regional Director for AFRD, called for the facility to be put to good use and reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to supporting the GID in its development initiatives.
