Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gilkock Football Academy, Brufut Branch, received a major boost this week as young players were presented with football kits, training gear, and essential materials donated by CD Guanarteme of the Canary Islands.
The handover held in Brufut sparked excitement across the training grounds, where players celebrated the arrival of the new equipment. For many of the academy’s youth, football represents more than a game, but a source of hope, direction, and opportunity.
The initiative was coordinated through the Star Up Foundation, led by its president, Sonja Arup, widely known in The Gambia as Sona Mariama.
Ma’am Arup has been working to build partnerships between football clubs in the Canary Islands and communities in The Gambia to open doors for young athletes in underserved areas.
Expressing her appreciation, she extended gratitude to the Foundation Port of Las Palmas and her team in the Canary Islands for their support.
“Together we are changing lives,” she said, noting that the collaboration demonstrates how compassion and unity can inspire young people and strengthen ties between communities.
“This is more than football. It is the future. It is family. It is hope. And together, we will continue building bridges that transform lives,” the Star Up Foundation president declared.
This latest donation to Gilkock Football Academy, Brufut Branch, marked another step in Star Up Foundation’s efforts to empower youth in Brufut through sports and community engagement.
