Africa-Press – Gambia. Bai Dodou Jallow, president of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, has called on National Federations and Associations to be proactive and continue to work cordially with the NOC.
He made the calls on Saturday at the day-long stakeholder briefing and strategic alignment retreat with all national sports associations.
The important forum was primarily designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the GNOC’s activities, achievements, and challenges over the past six months.
It was also meant to facilitate inclusive and open dialogue to ensure that the perspectives of all national associations are heard and integrated into the strategic priorities moving forward.
The forum further provided an opportunity to share information on the various funding opportunities available through GNOC, including clear guidelines on application processes, eligibility criteria, and reporting requirements to enable all federations and associations to effectively access and utilise these resources for their athletes and programmes.
President Jallow announced that a special package has been approved to support the activities of members, and GNOC intends to continue this initiative.
GNOC 2nd Vice President Bakary K Jammeh made a presentation on the 10 Action Points.
He emphasized that key among the pillars is promoting good governance in GNOC and NFs, as well as securing financial support and generating revenue.
He added that promoting diversity, Inclusivity, and championing Women in Sports is key among the pillars.
Jammeh stated that the action points also include promoting community service and the IOC sustainability program. GNOC pledges to promote sports safeguarding and ethical behaviour.
“Partnership with stakeholders and government would be a key priority in the action points. The NOC will also put focus on international success in order to increase the medal count at international games and competitions.
Advancing Olympism’s core values and supporting and advancing athletes’ careers highlighted pillars eight and nine. And then the final pillar will focus on capacity building,” he stated
In his presentation on funding guidelines for access to financial support, Bai Madi Ceesay, Treasurer of GNOC, urged national associations to adhere to the guidelines to have easy access to the financial support, while he emphasized transparency and accountability.
He further emphasized innovative resource mobilisation, gender inclusivity, and demonstration of activeness, noting that it is a key requirement to access financial support from the NOC.
