Government Launches We-Elevate Project for Women'S Empowerment

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy on Tuesday officially launched the WE-Elevate Project, an initiative designed to drive women’s empowerment and participation in the digital economy.

The project is spearheaded by the Government of The Gambia in partnership with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and key national stakeholders, including the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Trade, the University of The Gambia (UTG), the Gambia Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and ITAG.

As part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to accelerate The Gambia’s socioeconomic transformation through digital innovation, the WE-Elevate Project aims to empower women-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises (W-MSMEs) across the country. The initiative focuses on enhancing women’s digital skills, business capacity, and access to opportunities within the digital economy.

Delivering the keynote address, Hon. Lamin Jabbi, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, highlighted the significance of the project, describing it as a key pillar of the government’s efforts to promote women’s inclusion and leadership in the digital space.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, Mr. Alpha Humma, Women Enterprise Fund Manager, stressed that empowering women in the digital sector is not only a matter of equity but also a catalyst for national development.

“When women succeed, families thrive, communities become stronger, and our economy grows more resilient. Through initiatives like WE-Elevate, we are breaking down the barriers that have long limited women’s participation in technology, finance, and entrepreneurship,” he said.
