Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) Sunday said it had taken moves to settle the unpaid groundnut farmers with their monies.
According to a statement posted on NFSPMC’s website, a team of cashiers had been deployed to Upper River Region (URR) to settle groundnut farmers whose payments were still pending.
The team will move to other regions across the country to ensure that all those ground nut farmers get paid for their produce.
NFSPMC also clarifies that the vast majority of farmers have received their payments promptly upon delivery of their nuts at seccos (selling/buying points).
However, it says the corporation later notes that after final reconciliation of their books, some farmers continue to claim that they have not been paid by the seccos, even though the corporation reportedly transferred full payments to the seccos via mobile money platforms.
“These isolated cases have resulted in payment delays for a small number of farmers,” NFSPMC sources claimed.
The corporation then assured the public that the delays did not reflect the overall payment process, and that swift action was being taken to resolve all outstanding issues.
“A dedicated team is currently on the ground in the URR to address these specific cases. This verification and payment team will continue their work across all affected regions to ensure that every farmer who delivered groundnuts to their secco and is eligible for payment receives what is rightfully due to them,” the corporation highlighted.
NFSPMC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers and upholding transparency and accountability in all its operations. It also extended gratitude to the farming community for its patience and continued cooperation.
