Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) on Thursday concluded a two-day sensitization workshop for taxpayers in Banjul and the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) ahead of the launch of the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS).

The workshop, held Wednesday and Thursday, is part of GRA’s efforts to modernize tax processes and enhance efficiency, transparency, and compliance across the country.

Speaking at the closing session, Ernest Mendy, GRA Human Resources Director and Acting Commissioner General, underscored the importance of taxpayer engagement in ensuring the successful implementation of ITAS.

He said the system will reduce compliance burdens, curb opportunities for fraud, and strengthen domestic revenue mobilization, which he described as critical for national development.

“The success of ITAS relies not just on technology, but on the active participation of taxpayers,” Mendy said, urging business owners and citizens to provide feedback and support during the rollout.

Participants engaged with GRA officials to learn the functionalities of ITAS and raise questions. Alagie Mbaye, GRA Director of Customs, described the system as a “transformative web-based platform” enabling taxpayers to register online, file returns, make secure payments, and process refunds efficiently.

Samba Sallah, ITAS Project Manager, assured participants of comprehensive training and ongoing support after the launch, noting that the platform will allow taxpayers to manage obligations without disrupting business operations.

GRA officials said the rollout of ITAS is expected by the end of this year or early next year, emphasizing that active participation during the sensitization phase is essential for a smooth transition and to maximize the system’s benefits.

By equipping taxpayers with the knowledge to navigate ITAS, GRA aims to foster a culture of compliance and strengthen domestic revenue collection, contributing to national development.
