It is with great humility as I write to extend my hearted congratulations in my capacity as the Party Leader and Secretary General of The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) to President-Elect Basirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye in the just concluded Senegalese Presidential runoff 2024.

I would also like to congratulate the people of Senegal for the peaceful election and for coming out in their numbers to exercise their constitutional right. Your comportment before, during and after the election is a worthy example to be emulated by all for a very peaceful and transparent election.

To contested candidates, please accept my sincere heartfelt gratitude for peacefully accepting the verdict of the Senegalese people to allow sanity to continue raining in your country. The election process you just concluded does not represent a competition but celebration. The people of Senegal have emerged victorious and you have set a good precedent as a country for upholding the democratic value and norms.

To the President-elect- Basirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, i am fully aware of the immediate task that lies before you and always bear in mind that the recipient of your commitment, actions and decisions will be the people of Senegal.

Moreover, I hope you will work towards delivering your election promises in building a country founded on Justice, peace, reconciliation, development and dignity for each and every Senegalese.

As the closest neighbors to Senegal, it is with a strong relieved knowing full well that the existing relationship between The Gambia and Senegal is paramount to the interest of both countries as it reflects back to both countries for any outcome. I would commend all camps for demonstrating full maturity, love for their country during the election period to maintain peace and tranquility.

Finally, accept my sincere heartfelt congratulation once again and wish you a successful leadership in office as the newly chosen Commander-in-Chief for the Republic of Senegal.
