IEC: We Don’t Receive any Complaint From NPP Against GDC, Kandeh over Jammeh

Africa-Press – Gambia. By Kebba Ansu Manneh Pa Makan Khan, Communication Officer, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has informed this medium that the commission is yet to receive any formal complaint from the National People’s Party (NPP) of President Adama Barrow regarding former President Yahya Jammeh addressing gathering at the Mama Kandeh-led Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) political campaign.

According to him, IEC is equally monitoring the developments and will issue statement when it becomes necessary, adding that no formal complaint has been received from the National People’s Party on former President Yahya Jammeh making addresses through telephone calls to supporters at rallies of Mama Kandeh and the GDC.

“We are closely monitoring the political campaign and the messages been delivered and if the need comes we will issue a statement. I want to repeat that no complaint has been received by the commission yet to this effect,” Pa Makan Khan disclosed to this medium.

The development comes on the heels of the recent political addresses made by former President Yahya Jammeh during campaign rallies of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), where the former President is continually urging his supporters and Gambian electorates to back GDC leader in the forthcoming Presidential election slated for 4th December, 2021.

Earlier this week, Gambian President Adama Barrow has strongly condemned and warned the leader of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Mama Kandeh to desist from giving platforms to former President Yahya Jammeh to address the Gambian electorates at his campaign rallies ahead of the Presidential election.

President Barrow also cautioned the GDC leader to note that the country is governed by law and any mistake committed by Mama Kandeh will not be condoned, arguing that the former President’s asylum conditions disqualified him to partake in any political activities in the country.

Deputy President of the National People’s Party (NPP), Doctor Demba Sabally also added his voice to the development by appealing to the government of the Gambia to create the enabling environment for the arrest and prosecution of former President Yahya Jammeh.

Doctor Baldeh, observed that the former President wants to create violence in the country by addressing his supporters at the rallies of Honourable Mama Kandeh, stressing that the act is unacceptable and must be stopprd immediately.

He blamed the leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Mama Kandeh for according his platform to former President Yahya Jammeh to address Gambian electorates and his supporters, while questioning whether Kandeh and his GDC party have any love for the country by allowing the former President to make addresses at their rallies.

However, the GDC Leader has also responded to the Gambian President and his Party, adducing that his party will accord the former President Yahya Jammeh and any other Gambian to make addresses in GDC campaign.

The former President Yahya Jammeh is expected to make another address yesterday at Janjanbureh, the regional capital of Central River Region (CRR) as Presidential campaign enters into day ten.
