IGP Invites Public Suggestions, Urges Officers to Follow Protocol

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has invited individuals, groups, and organizations to submit suggestions, recommendations, and constructive criticism to support its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country. This announcement was made on 28th August 2025.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) encouraged serving members of the GPF to channel their recommendations through official offices and established procedures. “The doors of the Office of the Inspector General remain open to all constructive input,” the statement said.

However, the police leadership expressed concern over criticism perceived as subjective rather than objective, warning that such commentary could create misunderstandings and prompt actions contrary to the law.

The statement also addressed public commentary by some serving members, noting that such conduct risks undermining public confidence and contradicts expected standards of discipline. Notably, Superintendent of Police David Kujabi, a former GPF Public Relations Officer, has published personal opinions on social media, including posts titled “Are We

Solving a Problem or Stoking a Fire That May Burn Us All” and “Conflict Sensitivity and Law Enforcement in The Gambia.”

In response, all GPF personnel are reminded to uphold the terms and conditions of their service and to refrain from conduct unbecoming of a police officer. Officers are strongly advised to remain guided by ethics, loyalty, and respect for institutional processes.

The leadership emphasized that public disagreements and unregulated commentary not only undermine the integrity of the Force but could also compromise national peace and security. Serving members are therefore warned to exercise responsibility, with violations subject to disciplinary action.
