Africa-Press – Gambia. Yasai Joof, Creative Director at Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy, has made history as The Gambia’s first Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance Sports coach. Her groundbreaking achievements have not only advanced the nation’s presence on the global dance sports stage but also raised the Gambian flag with pride through her exceptional leadership and dedication.
Under Yasai Joof’s guidance, Gambian dancers have competed internationally, showcasing their talent at prestigious events and gaining global recognition. Notably, her team participated in the Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll World Championships held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in December 2024, a historic milestone that spotlighted The Gambia’s emerging strength in this dynamic and athletic dance discipline. With participants from all continents, the championship underscored the truly international nature of the sport.
Building on this momentum, Flex Fuzion dancers went on to compete in the Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll and Acro Swing World Cup in Dakar, Senegal, in March 2025, where they advanced to the semifinals. This impressive performance further cemented The Gambia’s status as a rising force in the world of acrobatic dance sports.
Currently, Yasai Joof and two of her leading dancers – Daniel Taylor and Mariama Camara are in Moscow, Russia, undergoing intensive world-class coaching. This advanced training is set to bring even greater expertise and innovation to The Gambia’s acrobatic rock ‘n’ roll scene.
Ndey Fatou Jabang, founder and CEO of Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy, and President of the Africa Committee of the World Federation of Acrobatic Dances and Dance Sports, expressed her pride in Joof’s accomplishments and the strides made by The Gambia in this growing discipline. She emphasized that this is just the beginning for the team, praising their talent, leadership, and potential.
Madam Jabang also highlighted the broader cultural and economic impact of dance sports in The Gambia.
