Africa-Press – Gambia. The Village Development Committee (VDC) of Jinack Kajatta has broken its silence to categorically reject allegations linking it to migrant boat operations, describing claims of collaboration with human smugglers as “completely false and unfounded.”
In a statement issued on December 28, 2025, the committee underscored its unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity, safety, and reputation of Jinack Kajatta Village. The VDC firmly denied ever receiving financial benefits from migrant boats departing from Jinack Island.
“We have no interest in supporting or engaging in any activities that contravene the laws of The Gambia,” the statement declared, reaffirming the committee’s clear opposition to irregular migration and the use of the village’s shores as a departure point.
Addressing allegations that the VDC collects one hundred thousand dalasis from each departing migrant boat, the committee dismissed the claims outright, stressing that its stance against irregular migration has long been consistent and widely known both within and outside the community.
“These allegations are completely false,” the statement emphasized.
Working in close collaboration with village elders, the VDC noted that it has taken proactive measures to confront the challenges posed by irregular migration, despite severe constraints in manpower and material resources. The committee reiterated its moral obligation to safeguard the good name and well-being of Jinack Kajatta.
“We recognize our moral responsibility to protect the integrity, safety, and good name of Jinack Kajatta Village,” the statement said.
The VDC urged the public to disregard the allegations and assured all stakeholders of its continued commitment to lawful conduct, community development, and national efforts to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling. It further reaffirmed its readiness to cooperate fully with relevant authorities to ensure that the village is not associated with any illegal activities.
Concluding the statement, the committee appealed for understanding and support, highlighting the limitations faced by the community in addressing migration-related challenges. For further information, the Jinack Kajatta VDC can be contacted on 777 8935 or 352 2649.
