Africa-Press – Gambia. Karpowership has officially announced the end of its operations in The Gambia after the expiration of its electricity supply agreement with the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), which opted not to renew the contract.

“As of May 2, 2025, our electricity supply agreement with NAWEC has come to an end, following NAWEC’s decision not to renew the contract,” the company stated in an official press release.

Since 2018, Karpowership has played a significant role in supporting The Gambia’s energy sector by supplying electricity to the national grid. At the peak of its operations, the company provided up to 40% of the country’s total electricity needs.

“At the height of our operations, we supplied up to 40% of the country’s total electricity demand, an achievement that reflects our strong commitment to advancing access to energy and improving daily life for Gambians,” the statement highlighted.

Beyond electricity generation, Karpowership emphasized its dedication to corporate social responsibility, citing a range of community development projects it has undertaken over the past seven years. These included in-kind donations, infrastructure improvements, and programs focused on children’s welfare.

“Over the past seven years, we implemented numerous community development initiatives—from in-kind donations to infrastructure enhancements and programs supporting children’s welfare,“In light of NAWEC’s decision, our electricity supply officially ceased on May 2, 2025. We are now preparing to conclude our operations in the country by the end of the month, in full compliance with local regulations. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and partners to ensure a smooth and respectful transition,” the company added.

Karpowership also expressed its gratitude to the Government of The Gambia for the trust and partnership over the years and stated its willingness to collaborate in the future to support the nation’s energy and development goals.
