Africa-Press – Gambia. A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed the bedrooms and household belongings of Suwareh Hydara, popularly known as Fally, in Kerewan, North Bank Region.

The cause of the fire outbreak remains unknown.

Suwareh Hydara and her family lost two refrigerators, jewelry, foodstuff, furniture, a television set, clothing, a cupboard, and important national documents. She also commended the Fire and Rescue Service in Barra for their prompt response and efforts to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The family has called for urgent humanitarian assistance from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the Gambia Red Cross Society, and other charitable organizations. They expressed gratitude to the residents of Kerewan for their timely efforts in extinguishing the fire.

Meanwhile, residents of Kerewan have appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Interior, to establish a local Fire and Rescue Station to improve response to fire and other emergencies. At present, the nearest fire stations in Barra and Farafenni are approximately 60 kilometers away from Kerewan, the administrative headquarters of the region.
