Africa-Press – Gambia. Lamin Zone has been crowned champions of the West Coast Region (WCR) Zonal Football Championship for the first time since the competition began four seasons ago.
The final, played on Friday at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium, saw Lamin Zone secure a narrow 1-0 victory over debutants Tujereng Zone.
Tujereng started the match strongly, creating several scoring opportunities and having a goal disallowed for offside in the fifth minute. Despite their first-half dominance, the newcomers were unable to convert their chances.
After the break, Lamin Zone adjusted their tactics, increasing pressure on Tujereng’s defence. The decisive moment came shortly after Abubacarr Badjie’s introduction, as he scored the lone goal of the match, sealing victory for Lamin Zone.
As champions, Lamin Zone received gold medals, a trophy, and a cash prize of D175,000. Tujereng Zone were awarded silver medals, a cash prize of D125,000, and a trophy for the most disciplined fans’ club of the tournament.
The Brikama Area Council (BAC) provided significant support to the event, contributing D500,000 to the Organising Committee of the WCR Zonal Championship.
