Land Secured for New Stadium in Lamin, Says Information Minister

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has confirmed that land has been officially allocated in Lamin for the construction of a new national stadium.

Speaking during an appearance on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez, Minister Ceesay said: “I am aware that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been allocated a huge chunk of land in Lamin last week. The allocation is complete to build a new stadium.”

Dr. Ceesay described the project as part of the government’s broader strategy to invest in sports infrastructure and lay a solid foundation for national development. “When it comes to infrastructure, the government is doing well to build the foundation,” he added.

Plans for a new stadium in Lamin were initially announced by the Office of the President and the Ministry of Youth and Sports one to two years ago. With the land now officially secured, the project is poised to enter its next phase.

The minister emphasized that the government’s current focus is on what he referred to as the “three I’s”—infrastructure, institutions, and instruments. He acknowledged that significant gaps exist in these areas, pointing to decaying infrastructure and weakened institutions that no longer serve their intended purposes.

He reiterated that, as a new democracy, the president is concentrating on laying strong foundations. “So that the next government that comes, whoever that person might be, is going to build on top of these foundations,” he added.
