Mai Fatty: “Barrow has Set a Standard of Leadership that will be Nearly Impossible to Surpass”

Africa-Press – Gambia. Mai Fatty, Secretary-General and Party Leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), has praised President Adama Barrow for setting a high bar in national leadership, describing it as a benchmark that will be difficult to exceed. He made these remarks on Saturday during the inauguration of the National People’s Party (NPP) Bureau headquarters, speaking on behalf of the coalition partners.

“Leadership is not inherited, It is earned through service. It is proven through trials,” Fatty stated. “President Barrow has set a standard of leadership that will be nearly impossible to surpass, but it must be sustained by those who understand its depth and value.”

Fatty emphasized the need for continuity in governance guided by vision and responsibility, noting that Barrow’s leadership has laid a solid foundation for national progress. Stating, “As I stand here representing our alliance partners, I see a future where the Gambia leads, not just by example, but by action. But I also recognize the enormous responsibility that comes with stewarding President Barrow’s transformational work.”

He further described President Barrow as a leader of responsibility, adding that those shaped by his governance principles are fully aware of the demands involved in preserving his legacy.

“Those of us who have been shaped by his governance principles appreciate and understand that responsibility. Ultimately, we understand that preserving this legacy requires more than good intentions. It requires proven commitment, tested resilience, and unwavering dedication to Alliance principles that have brought us this far,” he said.

Quoting President Barrow, Fatty concluded by highlighting that true leadership lies not in winning power, but in using it to improve the lives of the people.

“Our alliance has deep roots, solid roots in Gambian democracy supported by President Barrow’s visionary leadership and strength by our shared commitment to preserving this legacy for those who will come after us. As he (President Barrow) said, the true depth of leadership is not whether you can win power, but whether you can use power to make your people’s lives better,” Fatty said.

Fatty’s remarks were part of his speech delivered on behalf of the NPP’s coalition partners during the official opening of the party’s new Bureau headquarters.
