Mass Resignations Hit UDP with 20 Officials Stepping down

Africa-Press – Gambia. Twenty senior United Democratic Party (UDP) officials and members from the West Coast Region have collectively resigned from their positions and party membership, dealing a significant blow to the opposition party’s regional structure.

The resignations, announced in a formal letter dated September 27, 2025, and addressed to the UDP Administrative Secretary in Banjul, include high-ranking regional committee members, constituency chairmen, and ward-level officials across multiple constituencies.

Among the most notable resignations are Regional Committee Treasurer Sirimang Kuyateh and Deputy Treasurer Modou Simaga, whose departures leave a significant gap in the party’s financial leadership structure in the region.

The exodus also includes constituency chairmen from key areas: Ebrima Ceesay of Kombo East, Alagie Njie of Foni Bondali, and Momodou Jallow Gibba, who served as both Foni Berefet Constituency Chairman and All Foni UDP Chairman.

Other prominent figures stepping down include Daniel Mendy, who held positions as both Brikama South representative and UDP National Executive Treasurer/Coopted, and Fatou Khan, Deputy Secretary of the Regional Committee’s Women’s Wing.

In their joint resignation letter, the group wrote: “We, the undersigned executive position holders and members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in West Coast Region, hereby tender our resignation from both our executive positions and membership of the Party with immediate effect.”

This development represents one of the most significant collective resignations from the United Democratic Party (UDP) in recent memory, both within the West Coast Region and across the party’s broader national structure. The departure of such a large number of senior officials—many of whom held influential positions at the regional, constituency, and ward levels—signals more than just an internal reshuffle; it threatens the party’s grassroots machinery in the country’s most populous region.

As of press time, the UDP leadership had not issued an official response to the mass resignations.
