Africa-Press – Gambia. Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, former National Organizing Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has formally announced the establishment of a new political movement, expressing profound gratitude to the UDP for its support during his political journey. The announcement was made on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Addressing the public, Mayor Bensouda described the decision as one of the most difficult he has faced. “This decision has not come lightly. It is one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in my life, because all know and all have witnessed the support I have received from this party, and I would be insincere to not come here and thank them,” he said.
He extended heartfelt thanks to UDP leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and all party members, assuring them that those who join his new movement will forever hold deep respect for the UDP and remember its sacrifices.
Mayor Bensouda further emphasized the need for national unity and transformation. “I want to end by asking all Gambians, we have to change our country,” he urged. He pointed to the challenges facing the nation, particularly the struggles of Gambian youth, describing them as unacceptable.
“We have to forget the communities we are from. We have to remember that we either succeed together as one nation or fail as individuals. So I want us to unite with one voice, unite with one mind, with one body, to change this country forever,” he concluded.
