Africa-Press – Gambia. Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, President of the Local Elected Women’s Network of Africa (REFELA), has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf-Africa Strategic Partnership Initiative (GASPI), aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment and advancing community development across the region.
In a statement shared on her official Facebook page, Mayor Lowe explained that the partnership will prioritize improved access to essential services—including clean water—and promote sustainable urban and rural development. The initiative will also support the enhancement of sports and education, covering both conventional and madrassa schools.
Describing the signing as a “historic moment,” Mayor Lowe said the agreement is built on a strong, results-oriented framework designed to deliver meaningful change in communities.
“These pillars directly address the core needs of our communities and provide a robust platform to accelerate our development goals,” she said.
She noted that the milestone highlights the growing leadership of women across Africa and demonstrates the impact that can be achieved through strategic collaboration with visionary partners.
GASPI was represented at the ceremony by Demba Hydara, Executive Chair of the GASPI Secretariat based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Mayor Lowe emphasized that the MoU marks a significant step forward in their collective mission to drive transformative development. She also expressed gratitude to the National Coordinator of REFELA Gambia, regional coordinators, the Deputy Mayor, the CEO, and senior management of the Banjul City Council for their presence and support during the event.
“Together, we are forging a path of purposeful progress for our people and for the future we are building together,” she concluded.
