Africa-Press – Gambia. The Mbolo Association and its Spanish partner are sponsoring five students to pursue higher education in the Gambia. The association in partnership with a Spanish institution Educando Mentes has awarded five scholarships for students to study at the University of The Gambia and The Gambia College.

The award ceremony, held at Fandema in Tujereng Village marked a significant milestone in efforts to support education and community development.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Mbolo Association, Malang Sambou, described the initiative as a crucial contribution to the education sector.

He notes that the association has played a key role in community development since its inception, particularly in promoting access to quality education for young people, especially women.

“Many people struggle to find funding for their education. The poor face significant challenges in accessing quality education, and lack of finance has affected many students,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that many others are unable to complete their education due to financial constraints.

Board Member of Mbolo Association, Alagie Bah, says the collaboration with Educando Mentes goes beyond institutional partnership, describing it as a relationship built on shared values and a common vision.

“Our role goes beyond governance. We ensure transparency, provide strategic direction, mobilise resources, and build partnerships to empower lives and foster sustainable development,” he remarked.

Mr Bah emphasizes that education remains one of the most powerful tools for transformation, while expressing gratitude to Educando Mentes for its commitment to international cooperation.

A representative of Educando Mentes commended Mbolo Association for implementing the initiative, stressing that education is vital for national development and calling on stakeholders to invest more in the sector.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Director at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alhajie Ceesay, described education as a collective responsibility. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the education system and commended the association for its support.
