Africa-Press – Gambia. MC Cham Jr., a nominated councilor at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and member of the Unite Movement for Change (UMC), has criticized Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting, accusing him of spreading misinformation and lacking transparency in his public statements.
In a statement shared over the weekend, Cham reminded the minister that “leadership is about truth, not theatrics.” He cited inconsistencies in Dr. Ceesay’s public remarks about the government’s tractor distribution program.
According to Cham, the minister told an audience in Senegal that President Adama Barrow had delivered 2,000 tractors to Gambian farmers. However, at a recent National People’s Party (NPP) rally in Sukuta, the same minister reportedly claimed that 180 tractors had been delivered.
“But the reality is clear: only 60 tractors have been delivered so far,” Cham said.
He further accused the minister of routinely providing conflicting information to the public. “Since his appointment, Dr. Ceesay has never given accurate information to the Gambian people. His words change with the audience, not with the facts,” Cham asserted.
He also clarified that the tractors are not being distributed free of charge but rather issued to farmers as loans under what he described as the “so-called farm mechanization program.”
Questioning the government’s credibility, Cham asked how Gambians could place their trust in leaders who cannot maintain consistency in their messaging. “Truth matters. Accountability matters. The people are watching,” he concluded.
