MC Cham Jr. Fires Back at Information Minister

Africa-Press – Gambia. MC Cham Jr., Business Councillor at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and member of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), has issued a sharp response to recent remarks made by Information Minister Dr. Ismaila Ceesay. Cham accused the minister of deliberately misleading the public for political gain, branding him “the most pathological liar” in the country.

Cham stated in a strongly-worded rebuttal shared with this medium, “Allow me to educate the most pathological liar, the most disingenuous individual, and the so-called ‘doctor’ our motherland currently harbors.”

His response follows a controversial statement by Minister Ceesay, who described KMC under the leadership of Mayor Talib Bensouda as “the dirtiest municipality on the African continent.” Cham dismissed the claim as unfounded and politically motivated.

“Ismaila we all know what you are good at, and you do it well. However, be informed that you can never change the facts to distort the existing truth. The undisputed fact is and remains that KMC is better now than it has ever been under mayor Talib Bensouda. He has unprecedented achievements and outperforming him will be a tall order for his successor,” he asserted.

Cham urged the minister to turn his attention to what he describes as the real challenges facing Gambians, including the high cost of living, deteriorating healthcare services, rampant youth unemployment, and the rising crime rate.

“Ismaila should speak to the high crime rate as we see the daily happenings and the lack of hope within our youthful population. These are the issues Ismaila should be addressing and advocating for the best interest of the citizens. Gambians are more interested in dealing with the elephant in the room rather than the few ants we struggle to see no matter how hard we search for them,” Cham said.

He went further, calling on President Adama Barrow to consider replacing Dr. Ceesay, whom he described as a liability to the government.

“My advice to President Barrow is to do himself a favor and change Ismaila because he is dangerous for your brand. He does you more harm than good and a huge hindrance to the greatness you claim to have achieved so far,” Cham warned.

“Redirect your attention and energy to something better than your vengeful and spiteful utterances towards mayor Talib. Talib’s character has outweighed every lie you’ve told about him. Those that know you, Ismaila, KNOW you and Mayor Talib can’t help you on that,” he added.

Cham concluded by stressing the need for the Information Minister to better understand the functioning of local councils. He explained that while councils are legally mandated to manage public markets, many operations within them fall under the oversight of independent management committees or private entities.

“Councils have jurisdiction, but many market facilities include privately-owned properties and are governed by separate management structures. Councils simply collect taxes and rates as stipulated by law,” he clarified.
