Africa-Press – Gambia. In an exclusive interview with LBD Sports Agency and Media Network, coach Cham said he played nawettan football for New Town united formerly called Real Madrid FC of Sukuta.

“We were very successful during our junior and senior level at Sukuta as a club,” he said. He later played for Sait Matty-Africell between 2006 to 2011.

“During my first season with Sait Matty FC in the Second Division Championship, we won the league and were promoted to the First Division,” he explained

In 2012 he moved to The Gambia Ports Authority where he spent 2 months before ending his divisional career to commence work with OG Financial Services and only focused on nawettan football.

“During those days we were not trained by high professional coaches but our technical ability and physical fitness levels as footballers was exceptional,” according to him.

“In those days football was developed in The Gambia. The country won the Youth U-17 Championship on home soil in 2005.

Cham said in 2009 he had an opportunity to travel to UK for trails with Chelsea FC but could not make the journey due to financial hitches. He said in 2015 he hanged up his boots to focus on coaching while working for OG Financial Services.

He joined Abuko United Female Football Club in December 2016 as a trainer. In 2018 he traveled to Germany to study sports science and international football coaching, covering almost 318 lessons on theory, practical and video analysis.

“I was directly attached to RB Leipzig youth U-19 team and first division female team,” he also said.

After completing his studies, he returned to Abuko United female team and was appointed as head coach. In 2019 he was appointed as assistant coach of The Gambia U-20 team.
