Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has said that none of The Gambia’s opposition parties are credible, describing them as inexperienced and a potential danger to sub-regional security.
Speaking in an interview with a Senegalese media outlet in Dakar, Dr. Ceesay argued that opposition leaders lack understanding of the complex security dynamics in the Sahel and the broader subregion.
“They play with the relationship between The Gambia and Senegal. But President Adama Barrow has handled it with due diligence,” he said.
Dr. Ceesay maintained that the opposition lacks both credibility and vision, claiming that even their own households would not vote for them. “Those are the people vying for leadership—none of them have vision or a program. All they seek is power and the privileges that come with it,” he asserted.
He stated that all opposition parties share a single agenda—the pursuit of power and the privileges that come with it. Minister Ceesay argued that they fail to understand that governance is about service and hard work, attributing this to their lack of experience.
“None of them have worked in government to gain the necessary experience, except the old man from the UDP, who served as vice president and foreign affairs minister,” he stated.
Minister Ceesay told the Senegalese media that the relationship between The Gambia and Senegal is now stronger than ever, particularly in areas of cooperation. He noted that the two nations have never enjoyed such close ties since independence, emphasizing, “This partnership is vital, and we must safeguard it.”
He further stated that if the Gambian opposition were asked about their foreign policy stance toward Senegal, they would have no clear position or direction. “For that reason,” he argued, “the responsibility of governing should not be entrusted to them.”
According to Minister Ceesay, both Gambians and Senegalese share a common understanding that President Adama Barrow’s leadership is essential for Gambia’s progress, development, stability, and continuity.
“The Senegalese also recognize that to further strengthen cooperation between our two countries, President Barrow’s leadership in The Gambia is crucial—a development that serves the best interests of Gambia, Senegambia, and the entire subregion,” he concluded.
