Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has launched a scathing critique of Essa Mbye Faal, leader of the APP-Sobeya and prominent lawyer, describing him as “tormented by delusion” and driven by “unbridled ambition.”
Dr. Ceesay made the remarks during a recent radio interview, responding to accusations by Mr. Faal that the government has deliberately withheld a parcel of land for which he claims to have paid $125,000.
Minister Ceesay stated that Faal is driven by an intense and unchecked ambition for success and power, often without consideration for the consequences. “Also driven by unbridled ambition, and this is a very, very serious case,” he said.
The minister further criticized Mr. Faal for what he described as evasive language during public discussions about the land issue and accused Mr. Faal of deliberately leaving out key facts when addressing the issue.
“Immediately after the presidential elections in 2021. He sought an audience with the president. He wanted the president to intervene so he could get the particular land,” Minister Ceesay said.
According to Dr. Ceesay, the president declined the request, advising Mr. Faal that such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant institutions and must follow due process. Saying, “He pleaded with the president for the president to intervene so he can get the land.”
Turning to political matters, the minister recalled that during the 2021 campaign period, his then-opposition party, Citizens’ Alliance (CA), had explored the possibility of forming a coalition with Mr. Faal. According to Dr. Ceesay, CA sent a representative, Rafi Diab, to initiate talks.
Faal’s alleged response was that any coalition would have to be led by him because he is more educated, wealthier, and knows more presidents than them.
“So this shows the kind of person he is. And because of that, we could not form a coalition. So Essa Faal talking about coalition; it’s not possible. He will not form a coalition with anybody,” Dr. Ceesay said.
