Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, has stated that the recent formation of the National Democratic Party (NDP), a splinter group from the National People’s Party (NPP), will have no impact on the ruling party.
In a recent interview, Minister Sillah emphasized that the split has “absolutely no impact” on the NPP, noting that even a fractional shift of 0.5%, 1%, or 7% would be negligible given the party’s solid support base. “I said it has no impact. Even 0.5%, 7%, or even 1% is a marginal number in terms of our solid base.”
He explained that the NPP’s core supporters—comprising approximately 37% of the electorate—are largely made up of the party’s founding members, committed followers, and voters who consistently back the ruling party. “This is a solid group, representing nearly 19% of our population,” he said.
Minister Sillah further highlighted that any Gambian president can count on the unwavering support of this core segment, attributing their loyalty in part to religious and traditional beliefs.
