Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, has emphasized the government’s focus on road construction as a cornerstone for national development.
Minister Sillah made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the North Bank, Central River, and Upper River regions, accompanied by senior officials from his ministry and the National Roads Authority (NRA).
“Road infrastructure is critical to connecting people, communities, and services,” Minister Sillah said, noting that improved connectivity aligns with President Adama Barrow’s development agenda, which prioritizes economic growth and social progress.
He highlighted that road development is part of broader efforts to enhance national connectivity, alongside expanding electricity services, improving public transport, and other infrastructure initiatives.
“Reliable roads facilitate access to education, healthcare, and agricultural markets, while encouraging private investment and economic activity,” the minister added.
Minister Sillah also noted that enhanced connectivity supports balanced population distribution, enabling families to reside outside major urban centers without compromising access to essential services.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustained investment in road infrastructure, describing it as a driver of inclusive development, economic empowerment, and improved living standards. He said the inspection tour was aimed at ensuring ongoing projects progress as planned and deliver long-term benefits to communities nationwide.
