Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has announced a nationwide directive requiring all private learning institutions in The Gambia to register in accordance with the Education Act of 2018.

In an official statement released on Monday, 14 July 2025, the Ministry emphasized that any institution comprising ten or more learners receiving regular instruction including schools, madrassas, majalis, dara, and similar educational centres must be formally registered with MoBSE. This applies to institutions offering Early Childhood Development (ECD), as well as basic and secondary education levels.

The registration window opens on 17 July and will run until 30 October 2025. Institutions that are not yet registered are strongly urged to complete the registration process within the stipulated timeframe to avoid regulatory sanctions.

To initiate registration, proprietors are required to visit the MoBSE headquarters or their nearest Regional Education Directorate to collect and complete the necessary forms. Applicants must submit all relevant documentation and institutional details during the process.

MoBSE has made it clear that non-compliance will result in the closure of unregistered institutions, in accordance with national education laws.

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to enhance the quality and safety of educational environments, safeguard children’s right to recognized and regulated education, and promote transparency and accountability within the education sector.

MoBSE is calling on all proprietors and administrators of private educational centres to respond promptly and cooperate fully with the registration requirements.
