Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has strongly condemned the participation of schoolchildren in public protests organized by individuals or groups on matters unrelated to the delivery of educational services.

In a press release, the ministry described students as a “valuable and vulnerable” segment of society, emphasizing the need to protect their welfare, particularly during public gatherings that may carry unpredictable risks.

“As such, this ministry strongly disapproves of the participation of schoolchildren in any protest organized by an individual or groups on matters that do not relate to educational service delivery,” the statement read.

While reaffirming its respect for the constitutional right of all citizens to express their views, the ministry underscored its primary duty to safeguard the safety, well-being, and best interests of all students.

MoBSE urged school administrators, teachers, parents, and guardians to work together to provide proper guidance and supervision, ensuring that children remain focused on their education and are protected from harm.

The ministry further appealed to communities, security agencies, and child welfare institutions to support efforts aimed at creating safe and nurturing environments for schoolchildren, both within and outside school premises.

“Protecting and promoting the welfare of children is a shared responsibility, and together we can ensure a brighter future for all,” the release concluded.
