Mobse Launches Data Verification for Think Equal Program

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has launched a nationwide data verification exercise across public Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, in preparation for the integration of the globally recognized Think Equal programme into the national curriculum.

The Think Equal initiative, which emphasizes social and emotional learning (SEL), aims to equip young children with essential life skills such as empathy, emotional regulation, inclusion, and respect for diversity. Through a structured, age-appropriate curriculum and interactive materials, the program seeks to foster positive interpersonal relationships, emotional resilience, and responsible decision-making among learners.

According to the ministry, the data verification process marks a key preparatory step in the full-scale implementation of the programme, which is scheduled to roll out across all public ECD classrooms at the start of the 2025–2026 academic year.

“With MoBSE’s full endorsement and following a successful pilot phase, the programme will now become a key component of early childhood education across the country,” the ministry said in a statement.

In collaboration with Future In Our Hands—The Gambia (FIOHTG), the ministry is also facilitating teacher training and mobilizing community support to ensure the effective delivery of the programme.

“In partnership with Future In Our Hands—The Gambia (FIOHTG), the ministry is working to ensure comprehensive teacher training, effective classroom delivery, and strong community engagement,” the statement reads.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing foundational learning by incorporating SEL into the national curriculum, with the goal of nurturing a generation of emotionally intelligent, socially responsible, and confident learners.

The data verification exercise is being conducted by MoBSE’s Directorate of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education (ECIED), with technical and financial support from the World Bank Group through the RISE Project.
